Mountains as a way of life

My name is Marko Petek. From a young age, I was always looking for challenges and thus tried myself in many things. The mountains have often given me the most peace and satisfaction. Life led me through all the pores of mountaineering and led me to the profession of a mountain guide.

The challenge that brings us all to the key questions in life is certainly climbing mountains. There are no masks and no pretense. We become who we truly are.

Join me on mountain trials and I will gladly take you to the wild corners of our planet.

Triglav mountain

Following the path of the first approach

Triglav is the highest mountain in the Republic of Slovenia. The tower on the top, built by Jakob Aljaž, is considered a symbol of Slovenianness. Every Slovenian should stand on the top if he wants to become a true Slovenian.

In 1778, four brave men from Bohinj were the first to reach the summit. From Stara Fužina by Lake Bohinj, where the monument to these men stands today, Triglav can be seen as the top of three heads - three peaks, and that is why we call it Triglav today.

Today, the mountain can be accessed from several directions. Easier access is from the Krme valley, and more difficult from the Vrata valley. Despite the many variations, the most historically interesting but not the easiest approach is from Bohinjo along the path of the first climbers. Historians are not completely agreed on where our first conquerors went, but it was certainly different than today.

In the spirit of the past, as a hiker, you are offered an interesting story and a hiking trip to the highest mountain in Slovenia, the 2864m high Triglav.

KamnikSavinja Alps

Crossing the beautiful panoramic mountain chain visiting some modern shelters

The Kamnik Savinjske Alps are slightly smaller than the Julian Alps, but nevertheless cover a large part of northern Slovenia. In the north, they border Austria, and in the south, we can see the Ljubljana Basin, including the capital of the country, Ljubljana. From the capital, we only have about an hour to the heart of the Kamniška Savinja Alps.

If we want to get to know this mountain range as well as possible, we can embark on a multi-day ridge crossing from Velika Planina to Krvavec. Of course, there are several different options. If you want a customized and unique experience, write down your capabilities and wishes.

Julian Alps in winter

Alpin touring ski transversal crossing

of the Julian Alps

The Julian Alps are an ideal winter environment for traveling on skis. At altitudes above 1,500 meters, the plateau stretches from the Vogel ski resort all the way to Triglav, which also includes the valley of the Triglav Lakes, which offers us an epic winter trip on skis and some idyllic skiing ranges.

Transversala requires a physically trained skier and mountaineer, because only then will it be a great pleasure. On the way, some comfort awaits us at the mountain huts, but a stop is also necessary at an unserviced bivouac.

The tour can also include a winter ascent to the top of Triglav or any other peak on the way, but an interesting adventure awaits us.
